Financial Abundance the Fierce Gentleman Way

Giving brings wealth.

-Nagarjuna, The String of Precious Jewels

The Fierce Gentleman knows that the quickest way to material abundance is to serve others.

On a practical level, this means that if you have a skill or can develop a skill that is in demand, you will not need to worry about money.

Most folks at this point will say “I don’t have any skills” but this is just a mental roadblock. It’s not actually true.

Let’s say you really have zero skills. Go to the library, read books, and learn an in-demand skill. How to fix computers, how to build websites, how to repair watches or cars, how to shine shoes. This is something you can do with zero money, zero connections, just the clothes on your back and enough I.D. to get a library card.

Most of you are in a much better position than this. You already have some money — probably an income — connections, and existing skills. You have a material safety net. So you’re not going to starve. Now you need to learn to hustle.

Hustling is not taking advantage of anybody in a sleazy way. Hustling is when you take the technical skills you have, and combine them with the utmost compassion. You perform actions that help others, and you perform these actions with the highest level of patience & kindness you can muster up.

Compassion is a “high kind of intelligence, mixed deep with love for all living kind” (Nagarjuna again).

You’ve heard this called “insane customer service” but it’s really just compassion. If you are the most pleasant and uplifting bike mechanic in town, you will soon be the richest, even if there are 10 other bike mechanics and all of them are better than you. If they lack compassion and a good-spirited attitude they will not be able to compete with you. Love is the competitive advantage that will bring financial abundance. (Tweet this.)

Now let’s say you’re already employed in a job.

I don’t care if you love the job or hate it. It makes no difference. Your strategy is the same: bring compassion to your work. Switch from the “sales” mentality to the “service” mentality. Instead of trying to manipulate everyone around you, do your best to help everyone around you succeed.

Here is the attitude that will guarantee you financial abundance: every person around you is a potential hiring manager and/or client. Every around you has problems, and wants solutions. Everyone around you suffers, and craves relief.

All you need to do is pay attention to their needs, and help where you can.

By the way, the size of the problem or solution is not important. It goes all the way from whether your colleague prefers cream or sugar in their coffee to the size of the raise your boss wants.

You have something unique you can offer to every person around you. The puzzle you have to solve, day in and day out, is simply how to apply your unique skills, expertise, history, and attributes to their problems so you can render maximum service to them.

That’s the key to financial abundance — and spiritual abundance too.

It is not about how many lattes you buy; it is not about “power words” you use to convince others to hire you or buy from you; it is not about savings rates or REITs or 401ks or investment banking. It is about service. Period.

Here is a list that will help you decide what to do on the road to financial abundance:

  1. Don’t speak badly about other people.
  2. Don’t let a single negative word escape your lips.
  3. Don’t do anything that will hurt others, or work at a company that does.
  4. Take great care to have integrity in word and deed; not even the slightest white-lie is permissible.
  5. Deal with everyone openly and plainly. There is no need for intrigue or manipulation. (Read “How to Stop Manipulating People “)
  6. Reach out to help others who are struggling.
  7. Give the gift only you can give. There’s no need to copy anyone else. (By the way, the greater your gifts in any area, the more is required of you.)
  8. Don’t spend any time or energy worrying about “perception management” or your reputation. Focus on the steps above, and your qualities will be known by your those who need to know you, before even they meet you.

Finally, each day, do the “Prosperity Meditation.” Here’s how it goes:

Picture the city you live in. Imagine how many firms must exist in it. 1,000? 5,000?

Now imagine how many suppliers and contractors each firm employs.

Now imagine how many millions and hundreds of millions’ of dollars worth of goods and services are flowing just within your city. Imagine it as a huge ball of prosperity, of roiling “money” energy, green and gold, sparkling like diamonds and glinting in the sun.

Now imagine yourself walking up to this huge ball of prosperity, money seeking money, value flowing after value, and imagine yourself putting your hand into the flow.

When you draw your hand back out, it is covered with warm, beautiful, dripping financial abundance, sweet like nectar — exactly as much as you need right now and for the future.

Financial abundance is an ocean. We are all swimming in it, all the time. All we have to do is become aware of it, and put ourselves into the flow of liquid prosperity.

That’s how you get financial abundance.

He who can enrich others will never go hungry.
