Hi, I’m Andrew, a professional Coach.
Today, I’d like to share the reasons why you should never pay for another Coaching session again.
Why would I do this? Because I enjoy telling the truth, especially when others won’t.
Before you suspect me of some reverse-psychology profit-motive trick here, consider that as of this writing, all my clients so far in 2013 have been pro bono. (7/4/13)
Let’s dive in.
The Top 4 Reasons Coaching Should Be Free
Here are the reasons you oughtn’t pay for coaching:
- Personal development is not a commodity, and paying for something doesn’t guarantee you’ll get a good result. (Or any result.)
- Coaching is mostly listening. The only reason a market exists for paid listeners is because most people have lost this skill.
- You have a friend or acquaintance who is a good listener, who is courageous enough, and detached enough from your immediate life, to give you reasonably impartial feedback.
- You’re willing and able to do extensive & intensive self-work for the rest of your life. I’m talking about meditation, spirit quests, vision journeys, deliberately stepping into your fear, sitting in the fire of your pain, going to the survival camps in the mountains & deserts, attending transformative festivals, using consciousness-altering techniques to open the doors of perception, and much more.
What happens in Coaching is the result of attentive listening and a caring human relationship.
In an ideal world, we would all be able to rely on friends, casual acquaintances, or even family members for this “service.”
The fact that most of us can’t is a result of an increasingly isolated, disconnect culture.
In an ideal world, everybody would be trained from birth in effective, attentive, attuned listening & empathic resonant reflection, as well as deep compassion for all those around them.
It’s unfortunate that we don’t live in that ideal world.
And, because we don’t live in that ideal world, if you want to do your personal development, Coaching is a useful route to go.
(Especially if you’re patient and discerning enough to take the time to choose the right life Coach for you.)
So, under what circumstances should you pay for Coaching?
The Reasons You SHOULD Pay for Coaching
- You have trouble showing up and working hard, and spending money will help motivate you to do that.
- The idea of investing money in yourself is abhorrant to you. In that case, it would probably do you good to invest money in yourself.
- You’re ready to improve the quality of your thinking. Being listened to effectively improves the quality of your thinking. Coaching is listening.
- You’re ready to invest in yourself in ways that have a return on investment that is simultaneously infinite and unknowable.
- You are relatively wealthy, but have no friends, or only superficial friends to whom you can’t open up. In that case, dial my number immediately:
